The ABS Australian Census, occurring every five years, is a significant event for all Australians. In 2021 the public’s growing expectation of government services required an accessible and reliable online experience.

ABS wanted to meet the needs of their users by providing a contemporary user experience and to ensure higher quality and updated addresses were provided – to encourage the use of online form submissions, to improve fulfilment outcomes, reducing the likelihood of incomplete addresses. Therefore, there was a need to utilise the Address Auto Complete and Validation capability as part of the Census online self-service process.

This would need to be achieved whilst meeting Census requirements in data currency, security and scalability while seamlessly integrating with ABS processes.

To help the ABS achieve its goals, Geoscape provisioned and deployed a secure, tested, single-tenancy Address Auto-suggest API service in a sovereign AWS environment.
