Location-based services

Location-based services extend the capabilities of spatial information processing to end users via the internet and/or wireless networks. Through auto-location technologies, such as NMEA-compliant GPS devices and cellular identification, TerraPages can substantially increase the value of your mobile information service by providing information contextual to your geographic location.

Mapping services

TerraPages maps are dynamically generated from geographical features provided by the LISAsoft OpenGIS compliant spatial server. The server uses a spatial data engine to create spatial entities from a spatially optimised database system.

Navigational services

The TerraPages Navigational Service uses a heuristic PathFinder to calculate optimal routes in real-time. Dynamically generated paths can be overlaid on a digital map and/or given as street directions that will guide you to your destination.

Finder services

Customised content databases and TerraPages geocoding provide the ability for any service or point of interest to be readily located and integrated with other TerraPages location-based services.

Personalisation

A personalised profile enables the TerraPages portal to provide a seamless transition between desktop and mobile devices. Personalisation enables TerraPages to adapt the content to your current environment and your individual needs.

Anytime, anywhere, any device

TerraPages has been designed and developed to be delivered over various networks to a multitude of devices. The TerraPages portal caters for desktop computers on the world wide web and mobile users with pocket PC hand-held computers using wireless networks.

TerraPages architecture

The TerraPages distributed architecture allows for open integration with any enterprise information system. Location-based services are extended and enhanced by the TerraPages portal, or another application service provider. The location-based application is then deliverable to a multitude of clients using the internet in real-time.

  Finders enable you to locate what you want quickly in a foreign setting:
  • Restaurant Finder helps you find restaurants in your local area that have cuisine to suit your mood.
  • Pub Finder helps you locate a place close by where you can have a quiet drink, or perhaps somewhere to dance the night away.
  • ATM Finder enables you to find automatic teller machines near you that will accept your card.
• Take me there
  Navigate-a-Route makes finding your way to new places a breeze. The TerraPages PathFinder gives you step-by-step instructions from your current location to where you want to go. TerraPages gives you a path on a map and tells you the roads you need to follow, which way to turn and even the distance you will travel.
• My TerraPages
  Personalisation provides you with a customised interface to TerraPages, storing a profile of your interaction which remembers information such as:
  • 'My locations', and
  • 'My routes'.

This means you will always have access to the places you have visited, and will be able to get to them again.
