Policy change improves access to Australian address index
The Board of PSMA Australia has approved a major policy change – freeing up access to its award winning Geocoded National Address File (G-NAF) for an even wider variety of users. G-NAF is Australia’s first authoritative index of locality, street, number and geographic coordinate (geocode). PSMA Australia has worked closely with its Value Added Resellers to develop an updated pricing and access policy that better meets end user requirements.
Access to G-NAF is now based on the number of people who will use the data, ensuring greater alignment between the investment and subsequent benefit to the end user organisation. The change coincides with the first anniversary of G-NAF’s release to market.
‘The new policy is about allowing ubiquitous access to Australia’s authoritative address index, so that large and small businesses alike can afford to incorporate G-NAF into their suite of corporate resources’, said PSMA Australia Chairman Ollie Hedberg.
‘After the first 12 months on the market, it’s clear that G-NAF has the potential to improve the way that so many different businesses operate—so the PSMA Australia Board was keen to broaden access by simplifying pricing and access arrangements’, said Mr Hedberg.
For example, G-NAF has been incorporated into a new dispatch system that is improving the way the ACT Emergency Services Authority responds to 000 calls. It is used in Western Australia’s leading online real estate portal, which provides customers with valuable location information about properties. Another example is a new software product which, by incorporating G-NAF, allows users to quickly determine exactly where an address is and if it is legitimate—useful for insurance and banking applications or for direct and accurate product and service delivery.
As part of the process of continual improvement, PSMA Australia has also just released the first quarterly G-NAF data update for 2005, and is in the final stages of developing the G-NAF XML Schema. When complete, the G-NAF Schema will be available on PSMA Australia’s website, providing a mechanism for structuring address information that will guarantee compatibility with both the G-NAF and the AS 4590 standard (Interchange of Client Information).
PSMA Australia developed G-NAF in partnership with technical experts LogicaCMG and Geometry.
G-NAF is accessible through PSMA Australia’s Value Added Resellers, who develop products that incorporate G-NAF for varied uses in a wide range of industries.
