Our foundation datasets are continually enhanced by the PSMA team. The May 2019 release includes some exciting additions to the datasets. Transport and Topography is in the spotlight for this release with interesting updates to rail and greenspace.
PSMA maintains and updates our range of foundation datasets quarterly. In amongst the bigger additions, there are many improvements for usability and efficiency included in each release. We aim to ensure the best data experience for all our users and partners.
Transport and Topography Updates
This release we have made updates to five out of eight jurisdictions railway information. This is unusual as rail has far fewer changes than datasets such as roads. NSW and ACT made interesting changes with the addition of new light rail lines to the data.
The brand new Canberra light rail line and stations are now included in the dataset. Big news for Canberra which, until 2019, only had a single railway station. The ACT now has 13 light rail stations.
The South East Light Rail line in Sydney is now included, along with the Newcastle light rail.
ACT roads data includes a more comprehensive set of tracks that were previously not included in the roads database.
Greenspace has also been improved across Australia to include more attributes. Melbourne has seen the greatest change thanks to some new data.
What else to look for
CadLite has seen a boost to the data in WA with an over 400% increase in the CAD points for the state. WA has had some major changes to the CAD database to improve the use of strata points. Previously, there was only 1 CAD Point record for each strata parcel. Now, there is one CAD Point for each Lot/Plan combination. This generally relates to the way one building is broken up into units that each have a property boundary.
G-NAF has been updated to reduce locality only addresses. This reflects a big effort to improve the confidence in addresses across the entire dataset. Locality only addresses are addresses identified at the local suburb level and cannot be verified on a specific road or property. We regularly update and verify new addresses with the aim to reflect the best data available.
