Possible G-NAF uses
Anybody relying on addresses to assist with core aspects of their business can derive value from G-NAF ®.
The raw G-NAF data that PSMA Australia provides to our Value Added Resellers is combined with their specialised products and/or service to create products for government and the private sector. The end products are available for, but not limited to, use in:
- digital mapping and navigation
- business sector
- government agencies
- telecommunications
- emergency management
- health
- insurance
- banking
- outdoor recreational activities
- tourism
- real estate.
The following scenarios illustrate how G-NAF can deliver economic, environmental and social benefits.
Bushfire
Interstate fire crews are called in to help fight a large bushfire which is threatening homes on the urban fringe. With their global positioning equipment, and G-NAF’s geocoded address information, the interstate fire crews can locate the exact position of houses under threat even though they are not familiar with the area.
Fraud
A telecommunications company losing profits on mobile phone accounts linked to fake addresses can use G-NAF to check that addresses provided are genuine and reduce the number of fraudulent accounts.
Rural emergency response
An ambulance responding to a medical emergency at a remote farmhouse can use G-NAF to ensure it pinpoints the exact location of the address rather than spending precious time searching for the right turn off along a country road.
Counter terrorism
A terrorism threat triggers a major incident response from police and emergency services. With G-NAF, authorities can ensure resources are immediately directed to exactly the right location. By layering other geospatial information, they can also build a complete picture of the area including details such as road centrelines, topography and property boundaries.
Business competitiveness
A national organisation relies on large address databases of customers, stakeholders and suppliers. By using G-NAF to verify the accuracy of its information, the organisation can eliminate duplication and errors in its databases, and reduce database maintenance costs. The organisation can also better analyse its activities by using G-NAF to develop a visual representation of information such as the locations of customers, suppliers and competitors.
Government policy and services
An accurate national index of addresses will assist many government departments and agencies. For instance, the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) will use G-NAF in the collection and analysis of the next Census. G-NAF will enable the ABS to provide statistical data in geographic regions that more closely align with areas of interest such as shopping centres or high school catchments. This supports more accurate socio-economic and demographic analysis, which in turn leads to improved government policy and delivery of services and support.
